Over 600 Students Graduate from U.S. Embassy-sponsored English Language Program

On Sunday, December 10, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Thomas H. Goldberger presented graduation certificates to 370 young Egyptians from Cairo, Alexandria, and the Nile Delta on their completion of the Access English Language Program. An additional 300 students from Upper Egypt will receive their graduation certificates in a separate ceremony in Luxor.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Access Program gives students two years of high-quality English language training and the opportunity to participate in extracurricular language learning activities. The American University in Cairo, AMIDEAST, and the Egyptian Education Resource Association, as partners of the U.S. Embassy for this program, organized the classes and extracurricular activities for the students. Since its start in Egypt in 2006, more than 4,000 Egyptian youth from underprivileged backgrounds have learned English through the Access Program.

According to Chargé d’Affaires Goldberger, “The achievements of Access alumni are the greatest testament to the strength, effectiveness, and value of the program. I have every confidence that the drive and determination that these Egyptian students have displayed in the Access program, coupled with their strong English language skills, will serve them well in whatever fields they choose to pursue.”

The English Access Microscholarship Program is one of over 30 programs the U.S. Embassy offers to thousands of learners and teachers of English across Egypt.
