Opposition Leader Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar seems to be cosying up to the United States in many of its nefarious policies and acts. Remember when she supported the United States’ attempt to illegally impose its puppet Juan Guaidó on the presidency and people of Venezuela?
On March 10, 2025, the US Senate announced a resolution “denouncing the human trafficking and forced labour of and profiteering from Cuban medical personnel serving in third-world countries”. The resolution declares that the export of Cuban medics globally, to assist the wounded or sick in war zones, natural disasters, Covid-19 and hospitals, constitutes “human trafficking” and “forced labour”. In other words, Cuban officials who manage such historical humanitarian and philanthropic programmes are human traffickers.
In a newspaper article last week, the Opposition Leader is quoted as follows:
“He (Dr Rowley) and Young have to answer to US authorities regarding their dealings with narco-trafficking Maduro. They may soon have to flee the country... We have hundreds of local doctors, nurses, medical technicians who are unemployed and hundreds on short-term contracts. We should be putting our people first. Our first priority should be creating jobs for local medical personnel because we spend billions in subventions, GATE and scholarships to educate them.”
This is a blatant attempt to cosy up to Massa, the US. Haven’t our nation, Caricom, and many other nations globally benefited from the Cuban medical industry? Why would you want to be antagonistic towards neighbouring Venezuela, with whom you jointly own cross-border gas fields, which seem to be the only viable income earner for Trinidad and Tobago in the short and medium term?
You think your dubious “growth-poles” are going to trump gas earnings in the short or medium terms? Why are you putting the interests of the US—which has sanctioned our efforts to mine gas from our cross-border gas fields—before that of Trinidad and Tobago, Caricom, and the Caribbean nations of Cuba and Venezuela? Answer: the Opposition Leader is vying to become a puppet who wouldst cosy up to the US to sell us all out!
The catastrophic civil wars following the fall of the Manchu Dynasty in China in the early 20th century resolved into a pitched war between the Communists led by Mao Tse Tung, and the capitalist Chiang Kai-shek backed by the United States. In the face of a most ignoble defeat in 1949, Chiang Kai-shek retreated to Taiwan, with the support of the US. Taiwan remains a US proxy, 100 miles off the coast of South East China, fully armed, militarily and financially, in order to check and contain China.
After carpet-bombing the whole of North Korea (Korean War 1950-1953), slaughtering 1.9 million North Koreans, the US established its proxy, South Korea, along a 160-mile front with its ethnic kin, its northern “foes”. Since then, the Kim dynasty has cut off relations with the West, but sharpened fraternal ties with China, Russia and the non-aligned “Third World”.
In 1953, the CIA instigated a coup in Iran, leading to the fall of the democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh. It imposed the imperial and autocratic puppet, the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was booted out to the US by the Iranian Revolution in 1979. To counter the Revolution, Israel and the US have emerged as symbiotic proxies. Currently, Iran (Persian not Arab) along with Hezbollah and the Houthism, are fighting tooth and nail to stop American/European Israeli genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, drawing the political, economic, and military wrath of the Trump-Netanyahu axis of terror. Fighting against genocide is a crime; perpetuating it is a moral duty.
No less terrifying is the fate of Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. He has thumbtacked himself to the drawing board of the West like a papier mâché cutout. He has converted Ukraine into a full-fledged Euro-American puppet. The revival of Russia from the dissolution of the Soviet Union has badly spoiled the West’s unipolar moment. It has intensified Western Russophobia; reawakened its Napoleonic/Hitlerian dream. Since 1999, 14 nations have joined NATO, easing eastwards from Europe to the Russian border. Only Ukraine now stands between NATO and Russia’s 1,200-kilometre border.
In 2014, the US fomented a rebellion in Kyiv which deposed the elected leader Viktor Yanukovych, imposing Oleksandr Turchynov and subsequently Zelenskyy (2019). The US and the Europeans egged on Zelenskyy to lever war against ethnic Russians on Ukraine’s Eastern border, which between 2014 and February 2022, the date of the start of the Russian “Special Military Operation”, had killed over 14,000 Ukranians. They egged on Zelenskyy to reject the Minsk/Istanbul peace accords persistently advanced by Vladimir Putin and Russia.
They egged on Zelenskyy into insisting on Ukraine’s joining NATO; the prospect of which—the permanent lining of the 1,200 km Ukraine-Russian border with NATO thermonuclear weapons, CIA bases, military airfields, multi-ranged missiles and munitions—Russia would never accept. Acting in the interests of Euro-American elites, Zelenskyy has converted 1.1 million of his own citizens into cannon fodder.
Now the Europeans and Americans declare that much of the US$331 billion support to Zelenskyy to perpetuate this ill-fated war was not aid; it was a loan. War-torn Ukraine, its economy and military shattered, has to repay. Part of the US payback deal is for Ukraine to accept US oligarchs exploiting its rare earth resources—for free!
From being Mr Jack Warner’s dolly-in-the-box between May 2010 and June 2013, the Opposition Leader is now vying to be the US’s dolly-in-the-box, jeopardising our nation, our neighbours, Caricom and the broader Caribbean.
