U.S. President Donald Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russia’s Vladimir Putin were ready to make a deal to end the war.

Trump spoke with reporters on board Air Force One, en route from Washington DC to Miami, Ukrinform reports.

According to Trump, he spoke with Zelensky "not too long ago".

"I think he (Zelensky - ed.) is ready to make a deal. And I think that President Putin is ready to make a deal, and then you will stop the killing of thousands of young people a week," Trump said.

He added that the U.S. wants the Russo-Ukrainian war to end as soon as possible, and that there is “a lot of progress” in the ongoing talks.

When asked about the talks with Putin's representative Kirill Dmitriev, Trump replied that he does not discuss specific individuals.

“I’ll just tell you that there’s a lot of good conversations going on about Ukraine, Russia,” Trump said.

He said that Europe has not succeeded in its relations with Putin, noting that he, in turn, might.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, head of the Russian private equity fund Kirill Dmitriev confirmed on Thursday that he had meetings with representatives of the Donald Trump administration in Washington DC on April 2-3. He later stated that during these meetings, the restoration of direct flights between the two countries was on the table.
