Putin calls up 160,000 Russians for military service

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the spring conscription of Russians for military service.

Details: The document indicates that 160,000 people will be called up.
According to the new legislation, citizens aged 18 to 30 will be called up for military service. Conscription will take place from 1 April to 15 June.
The decree also states that "soldiers, sailors, sergeants and non-commissioned officers whose conscripted military service has expired" will be discharged from military service.
Putin instructed the government, executive bodies of the federal subjects and conscription commissions to ensure the implementation of the draft.
Interfax reports that according to official data, 133,000 recruits were sent to the army during the last autumn conscription for a one-year term.
During the spring campaign of 2024, according to Putin's decree, 150,000 people were called up to serve in the army.
The agency recalls that on 1 January 2024, changes to the military conscription system came into force, with the maximum age for conscription being increased to 30 years.
It is reported that since December 2024, the staffing of the Russian Armed Forces has increased to almost 2.4 million, of which 1.5 million will be military personnel.
For reference: The Russian Federation traditionally holds conscriptions twice a year: in spring and autumn.
