MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent his condolences to Myanmar Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing over the devastating earthquake that struck the country.
"Dear Mr. Prime Minister, please accept my deepest condolences on the tragic consequences of the earthquake in the Sagaing and Mandalay regions. Russia shares the grief of the friendly people of Myanmar. I ask you to convey my sincere sympathy and support to those who have lost their loved ones, and my wishes for a swift recovery to all those affected by this natural disaster," the Russian president said in a statement published on the Kremlin's website.
A massive earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, with its magnitude reported to be between 7.7 and 7.9. It was followed by another quake with a magnitude of 6.4. Thailand was also affected by the disaster, with tremors reported in China and Vietnam as well. The earthquake caused fatalities and inflicted damage on residential buildings and infrastructure. Bangkok announced the evacuation of residents from apartment buildings. According to the latest reports, at least three people have died in the Thai capital, while more than 80 remain missing.
