To the editor:
I learned a new acronym this week: DARVO. First coined in the late 1990s, it stands for “deny, attack, reverse victim and offender.”
Sound familiar? The latest of President Trump’s many DARVO claims is that it was President Zelensky, not Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who invaded Ukraine. Trump also has been seemingly hard at work severing ties with the United States’ long-held alliances, preferring instead to align our country with Russia, even parroting Kremlin talking points.
Meanwhile, the richest man in the world with companies that hold billions in federal contracts has taken over government agencies at will. His random acts of chaos seem to be a good deterrent to the larger picture of what is happening within the administration. Disruption and confusion allows for the ever-increasing work of dissolving the Constitution and the branches of government that serve as checks and balances.
Stripping Congress of its power and transferring it to the executive branch is the goal of Project 2025, providing a template that mirrors Trump’s ongoing and mostly illegal executive order actions. Sole power in one branch of government means unchecked power and further riches for Trump, Musk, and the billionaire oligarchs within their circle. Talk about fraud and abuse.
Of our two senators, King is the only one to speak out loudly and clearly, reminding his Senate colleagues of the oath they took to uphold the Constitution while also reminding Americans that our government is for the people. Senator King has also warned of this administration’s actions leading to the U.S. becoming an authoritarian government. The definition of an an autocratic government is “a form of government in which one ruler has absolute control and decision-making power.” A frightening thought.
Call your Congress people. Get involved with groups fighting for our democracy to have a united voice. Let’s keep our government FOR the people .
