Reader's View: Stauber’s resistance to Ukraine aid disgusting

As one of his constituents, I would like to know what cap Stauber has in mind for assistance to Taiwan.

I am disgusted and chagrined that my representative in Congress apparently thinks freedom is too expensive to defend (“ Stauber votes against Ukraine aid, backs Israel and Taiwan ,” April 22).

Rep. Pete Stauber said the U.S. already has provided $100 billion of assistance to Ukraine to fight Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression. He contended we have done our share and that other allies should do more.

By comparison, the U.S. spent $2.3 trillion on our failed military adventure in Afghanistan in an effort to help people who collectively had little interest in freedom.

The unconscionable delay and divisive struggle against aid by MAGA Republicans like Stauber and U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has resulted in actual physical losses of territory by the Ukrainians and no doubt has emboldened Putin to persist in his aggression. Had better heads not eventually prevailed and passed additional aid to Ukraine, other dictators around the world may have surmised the U.S. has limited willingness to support our allies against aggression.

Stauber has recognized that China is a serious adversary and is preparing to attack Taiwan. As one of his constituents, I would like to know what cap Stauber has in mind for assistance to Taiwan. Surely, our allies such as Japan and South Korea are wondering about caps on assistance to them as well.
