24/03/2025 02:18 PM

BUENOS AIRES, March 24 (Bernama-TASS) -- The head of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, has confirmed that members of the financial body unanimously approved her re-election for another term, Russian News Agency (TASS) reported.

"I have been re-elected. They (NBR members) have put forward my candidacy and the board (of the organisation) unanimously approved this decision," Brazilian daily O Globo quoted Rousseff as saying.

Rousseff added that the BRICS countries will continue pushing for participation in mutually beneficial investment projects instead of creating a single community currency.

"I believe they (BRICS members) will closely focus on investments as well as investment platforms," she noted.

During the 2024 BRICS Summit in Russia’s Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that the chairmanship of Brazil and Dilma Rousseff in the BRICS New Development Bank should be extended.

Rousseff has chaired the NDB since 2023.
